Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in alignment with the principles of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, the activities of the first edition of the International Dental Congress 2023, organized by the Field of Dentistry at Galala University, were launched during the period from 27 to 29 September, inside GU’s main conference hall.
The opening session was attended by Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, Major General Dr. Bahaa El-Din Zidan, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchasing, Catering and Medical Supply, Prof. Dr. Adel Al-Adawi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Galala University, and Engineer Hani Mahmoud, former Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and President of the Truss Misr Foundation for Development. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, GU President, Prof. Dr. Ihab Hassanein, Dean of the Field of Dentistry at GU and Chairman of the Conference, and several senior academics and dentists in Egypt and Europe.
In his speech, the Minister of Health and Population stated that the political leadership has pumped huge investments into the fields of health and education over the past few years, creating a qualitative shift at the level of both sectors, whether in terms of services or facilities, in addition to paying attention to the human element and its efficiency, to provide distinguished services to citizens of all ages.
Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar mentioned all the efforts made to expand universities, starting from proposals to implementation, and what he witnessed during his tenure at the Ministry of Higher Education at the time, which resulted in the efforts of the Egyptian state to double the number of universities to reach more than 50 public and private universities distributed in all governorates.
The Minister of Health also confirmed that the strong support given by the political leadership to the file of Egyptian universities was the main driver for overcoming the challenges and continuing work to complete these educational edifices in a short period, explaining that the new universities were completed in record time, within only two years.
The Minister of Health and Population also reviewed the efforts made in the health sector over the past few years, and the qualitative leap that the presidential initiatives “100 Million Health” have brought about in improving the services provided to citizens of all age groups, and the shift from the idea of treatment after illness to early detection and prevention of diseases. In addition to improving the infrastructure of hospitals and medical centers, as well as starting the first phase of comprehensive health insurance.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Adel Al-Adawi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GU, said that Galala University is one of the national universities that operates on the fourth-generation system in order to prepare graduates capable of competing in the labor market at the local and international levels, explaining that more than 8,000 students are already enrolled in the university so far.
Al-Adawi referred to the journey of establishing Galala University and equipping it with the latest technologies, offering thanks and appreciation to Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Major General Dr. Bahaa El-Din Zidan, Chairman of the Egyptian Unified Purchasing Authority, for their support in establishing this educational edifice, reflecting the vision of the new republic, which is witnessing a revolution in higher education in all parts of Egypt.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, President of Galala University, indicated that GU seeks to implement the principles and objectives of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research launched by the Ministry of Higher Education, adding that the conference aims to provide an innovative and comprehensive overview of the latest developments in scientific research and community service in the field of dentistry by offering practical and technical capabilities, and skills necessary to serve local, regional and international communities.
Prof. Dr. Ihab Hassanein, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Chairman of the Conference and Vice President of Galala University for Academic Affairs, said that Galala University is proud of its advanced facilities and is committed to providing high-quality education and providing distinguished graduates who can contribute to the development of society, with the participation of more than 95 in the conference activities over two days, More than 16 workshops were organized on recent global developments in dental technology, in addition to prominent international economists presenting and discussing how to integrate health care into the economy and link it to the labor market, and the impact of climate change on public health.
Moreover, Engineer Hani Mahmoud, former Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and President of the Truss Misr Foundation for Development, declared the launch of the Farida Othman Initiative for the Prevention of Road Accidents, which aims to save the lives of thousands of people who are exposed to road accidents daily, by implementing 5 basic axes of the initiative, They are raising awareness of road dangers, raising the efficiency of medical units on highways in terms of equipment and medical personnel, in addition to psychological rehabilitation for the families of accident victims, ambulance and rapid transportation, and using artificial intelligence for road alerts.
