GU Hosts Workshop on Enhancing Local Manufacturing.

Last week, GU organized a workshop to strengthen technological capabilities for reducing the import bill and boosting local manufacturing. The event, which was held under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, focused on identifying industries suitable for local production, assessing economic indicators, and developing a reverse engineering guide. It also aimed to form working groups to create a comprehensive road map for local manufacturing.

Key sessions covered the current state of high-import industries, investment legislation, sectors primed for local manufacturing, and technological studies for continuous development.

Funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, the initiative is led by Dr. Taha Matar and involves collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Council, Export and Import Control Authority, Industrial Modernization Center, and more.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Shinawi, GU President, highlighted the importance of aligning university programs with labor market needs. He also noted the partnership with Arizona State University for scientific research collaboration.

Dr. Taha Matar presented workshop recommendations, including enhancing university-industry collaboration, providing specialized training, updating technology, and fostering researcher-manufacturer partnerships. The workshop also called for establishing technical schools, supporting legislative measures, improving investment environments, and creating job .
