GU Shortlisted for Three Prestigious Awards at Times Higher Education Awards Arab World 2024

Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, President of Galala University, announced that Galala University has been shortlisted among the best eight universities nominated for the Times Higher Education Awards in the Arab World for 2024. GU is the only Egyptian university competing in three categories: Leadership and Management Team of the Year, International Strategy of the Year, and Outstanding Contribution to Regional Development. The winners will be announced at the Arab Universities Summit in Amman, Jordan, in early December.

Prof. Dr. El-Shinawi highlighted that despite the university being only four years old, it continually strives for excellence in regional and international classifications. This commitment is reflected in the university’s efforts to enhance educational, research, and administrative processes, increase international publications, and link scientific research to market applications. He emphasized that this success is the result of the collective efforts of all university staff, both academic and administrative, and is reflected in the achievements of GU students, preparing them to compete in the local, regional, and global job markets.

This year’s finalists come from 53 different organizations across 12 countries, with more than 400 entries for the 2024 Arab World Awards. The best-represented countries on the shortlist include Egypt with 24 entries, the United Arab Emirates with 18, and Jordan and Saudi Arabia with 12 each.

Galala University ranked 19th among Egyptian universities and 55th among Arab universities in the Arab classification of universities at the end of its third year, 2022/2023. This classification is based on four main indicators: the quality of teaching and learning, the excellence of faculty members (30%), scientific research (30%), leadership and innovation (20%), international cooperation and community service (20%), and creating an Arab impact factor. A total of 208 Arab universities applied for the classification, with 115 meeting the admission requirements, representing 16 countries.

This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire community, celebrating our commitment to world-class education, innovation, and driving positive change in our region.
