Galala University Celebrates World Diabetes Day with Awareness Lectures and Workshops

Galala University marked World Diabetes Day with a series of impactful awareness activities and workshops. The celebration was organized by the university’s health sector with the collaboration of the faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, Nursing, and the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences.
The event featured a scientific and educational symposium hosted by the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, bringing together deans, program directors, academics, and health specialists. The sessions covered the causes, types, and complications of diabetes, emphasizing the importance of a healthy diet in prevention and management. Practical workshops provided hands-on training on interpreting blood sugar measurements and HbA1c levels, equipping participants with essential knowledge in diabetes care.

The celebration also offered free health services and awareness activities in collaboration with medical companies and faculties within the health sector. These services included free screenings for blood sugar and HbA1c, blood pressure checks, and BMI assessments. Medical and nutritional consultations were also provided, reinforcing the importance of prevention through healthy living and early detection.

Health Sector students worked alongside the university’s Red Crescent Unit to support the initiative. Six student teams set up awareness stations across campus to educate attendees and deliver direct medical consultations at diabetes and nutrition clinics.

This celebration reflects Galala University’s commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly promoting good health and well-being, while reinforcing its role as a leader in community service and health awareness.
