A team from the Architectural Design and Digital Architecture Program at Galala University has successfully concluded an international workshop on “Enhancing Inclusive Design in Architecture Curricula.” The workshop, held from December 6 to 12, 2024, in Dresden, Germany, was organized in collaboration with TU Dresden, Germany, and Koya University, Iraq, and funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).
The primary goal of the workshop was to develop innovative strategies for integrating inclusive design for people with disabilities into architecture curricula. Special focus was given to improving accessibility within university campuses and exploring effective methods for creating an inclusive educational system that accommodates the diverse abilities of all individuals. The workshop served as a platform to discuss and promote inclusive design practices that can be seamlessly incorporated into architectural education.
During the event, Galala University students actively participated in a variety of lectures, hands-on activities, and field tours in Dresden and Prague. These sessions provided them with firsthand experience in exploring architectural and urban accessibility, allowing them to gain valuable insights into how cities and educational environments can be designed to better serve people with special needs.
Earlier in the year, Galala University also hosted a workshop focused on inclusion and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), bringing together Egyptian and international researchers to discuss strategies for promoting inclusive design in architecture.
This international workshop and ongoing initiatives reflect Galala University’s strong commitment to advancing education in architecture and ensuring that it aligns with global standards, particularly in the area of inclusive and accessible design.
