As part of its commitment to sustainability, climate change awareness, and environmental responsibility, the Faculty of Nursing at Galala University organized a two-day student symposium titled “Environment and Afforestation” on November 10-11, 2024. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Gehan Elghonemy, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, with the participation of Dr. Rania Farag, Program Director, and Dr. Marwa Hegazy, Professor of Pediatric Nursing and Environmental Activities .
The symposium opened with a lecture by Eng. Mahmoud Youssef, Director of the Central Plant Nursery, who highlighted the vital role of afforestation and nurseries in mitigating climate change effects and the Ministry of Environment’s efforts in this field. Prof. Dr. Elghonemy emphasized the importance of fostering a love for agriculture among youth through educational initiatives and field visits to nurseries.
An interactive workshop followed, led by Dr. Rahab Youssef, Director General of Culture and Awareness, and Dr. Hanaa Sayed, Environmental Affairs Researcher. The workshop taught students creative recycling methods, turning everyday materials into innovative artistic planting projects.
The second day featured insightful lectures by Mr. Mohamed Ismail, Director of the International Environmental Policies Department, who explored the connection between the environment and national security, and Dr. Reham Lotfy, Head of the Environmental Awareness Sector, who discussed the interrelation between environmental health and public well-being.
This symposium reflects Galala University’s dedication to environmental awareness and the integration of sustainability into education, inspiring students to take active roles in combating climate change and promoting greener futures.
