As part of its ongoing efforts to connect education with industry, Galala University’s Faculty of Art and Design has strengthened its collaboration with the Industrial Modernization Center to enhance the integration of design and furniture manufacturing. This initiative aims to provide students with hands-on experience and insight into real-world industry practices.
A delegation from the faculty recently conducted a field visit to the industrial zone in Damietta, a city renowned for its thriving furniture industry. During the visit, students and faculty members toured Pinocchio Factory, one of the largest furniture manufacturers in Damietta, along with several other leading factories in the sector. These visits allowed students to explore the latest materials, techniques, and manufacturing processes used in the furniture industry, giving them valuable exposure to current market trends and production innovations.
The visit also facilitated discussions between key stakeholders, including Pinocchio Factory, the Damietta Furniture Association, the Industrial Modernization Center, and Galala University. Several key points of cooperation were agreed upon, aiming to strengthen ties between academia and industry, foster innovation in industrial design, and create more opportunities for students to gain practical experience in furniture production.
This collaboration directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education, through experiential learning and industry engagement, and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by encouraging sustainable growth and innovation in Egypt’s furniture manufacturing sector.
