Together We Innovate

Within the framework of Galala University’s encouragement of scientific research innovation and based on its firm belief that the university’s young researchers are the main engine of progress. Galala university announces the launch of the first call for applications to fund grants that support innovative research projects (a total of  at least 20 funded grants) for staff members, teaching assistants (FULL TIME) and students of Galala University . The application is open for all university programs through the first call offered by the university to finance innovative project ideas with a total value of one million pounds.

The main purpose of this program:

Enabling researchers and students to be engaged in basic and applied research activities during the study period, as the program will allow students to understand the culture of scientific research and innovation, and advance their knowledge to the stage of development and innovation to solve critical problems. This support from Galala University is important because the scientific research and innovation stage is considered crucial for generating skill and laying the foundation for innovation and development in the future.

Research Tracks in the Program:

 The program aims to promote scientific research and innovation that covers national aspirations in six different areas:

  1. Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  2. Basic and Engineering Sciences.
  3. Computer Sciences.
  4. Clean and Renewable Energy.
  5. Humanities and Administrative Sciences.
  6. Arts, Architecture, Design and Media.

Program Funding Criteria and Time Period:

The total value of the grants is one million Egyptian pounds, and the value of financing one project is a maximum of (50,000) fifty thousand Egyptian pounds, provided that the implementation period does not exceed one year. These projects are funded through the Research and Innovation Support Office at Galala University. The fund will cover student projects in all specializations, if this is under the supervision and follow-up of a faculty member and one of the supporting staff members (TA/LS) in the specialization or field of research. For each approved research project, the following is paid:

  1. First installment of payment to start the project amounting to Thirty Thousand Egyptian pounds (30,000 EGP), which should be spend only on the research activity, including the purchase of tools, supplies, materials, analyses, others.
  2. Other installment after the end of the project and its closure, which is disbursed after acceptance of the technical and financial report submitted to the university and after the research is published (or there is evidence of acceptance of publication) as follows:

– An amount worth (20,000) for research in an internationally classified journal in the field (Q1).

– An amount worth (15,000) for research in an internationally classified journal in the field (Q2).

– An amount worth (10,000) for research in an internationally classified journal in the field (Q3).

– An amount worth (5,000) for research in an internationally classified journal in the field (Q4).

Eligibility:

The funding program will support Galala University members’ proposals (FULL TIME) for research and innovation projects in various fields, with a focus on contributing to solving societal problems and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which must have applied outputs or prototypes. Applicants must also meet the following the criteria:

  1. The student must be registered in one of the university’s study programs.
  2. Students must be registered in one of the university’s study programs.
  3. There may be multiple specializations within the team, and the members are not required to be from the same field/specialization. Rather, projects with multiple specializations may be the priority.
  4. The quality of the research project topic .
  5. Consistency of the study project with the specific areas of accepted grants.
  6. Quality of experiments or specialization of research.
  7. Applicability of the research project.
  8. Submit a detailed budget for the project.

Outputs and Conditions for Closing Research Projects:

Submit a detailed technical and financial report on the project results.

  1. Submission of a detailed technical and financial report on the project results.
  2. Submission of one or more research papers extracted from the project in one of the internationally classified journals in the field (Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4).
  3. Authors should acknowledge Galala University in the manuscript by mentioning that (This work is supported by Galala University Grant ID, the authors would like to thank Galala University providing essential facilities, resources, technical advice and financial support).
  4. First, senior and/or corresponding author must be Galala University, and the full name of the university must be written as “Galala University”.
  5. Registration fees for international conferences will be covered on the condition that a research paper extracted from the project is presented at the conference.
  6. If the team wishes to apply for a patent (patent application and registration may take 1-3 years), the team should apply to the Research and Innovation Support Office at Galala University. The university will be the one who owns the intellectual property for the project, in cooperation with the researchers.

Jury Committee:

  1. The President of the University shall form, by decision of the University Council, the arbitration committee, which shall be composed of the Vice President for Academic Affairs as Chairman and two professors in each college at the University.
  2. Each project is judged by two members of the committee, one of whom must be in the exact specialty of the project and the other in a specialty close to it.
  3. Each arbitrator fills out the evaluation form and the average of the two evaluations is taken.
  4. The arbitration committee meets after the end of the specified arbitration period, and the committee chairman announces the results, and the projects accepted for funding.
